| Local reaction to training bomb dropped in Va. Beach
She says she didn't hear the training bomb land, but did notice the jets were louder today and seemed to be flying a bit lower. The Navy says earlier in the day, the F/A-18C Hornet was conducting a training mission at the Navy's Dare County, North Carolina Bombing Range. A former A-6 intruder pilot familiar with these types of training missions says, "It's almost unheard of. There's various things that can happen at intervals ranging from error in the cockpit to mechanical malfunction on the airplane." The former pilot described how the training bomb, which often releases a small plume of smoke when it lands, works. "It's harmless and it's only so you can see the location of where the bomb hits. It's for target practice basically." The Virginia Beach warehouse was obviously not the Navy's intended target. Now it's investigating what caused the training bomb to accidentally drop.
BACK IN IRAQ: THE 'WHORES OF WAR'
EVEN FOR Blackwater, it was an atrocity too far. If an Iraqi government report is to be believed, Blackwater, a US mercenary company which is unofficially the world's largest "for hire" private army, indiscriminately and without provocation opened fire earlier this month on civilians in a Baghdad street, killing at least 20 people. Iraq immediately revoked the firm's licence to operate in the country and moved to expel its staff and prosecute those responsible for the shootings, but Blackwater's activities have since resumed. This coincides with the release of a US Embassy report on the September 16 shooting, obtained by the Washington Post and described by a State Department official as a "first blush" account. It details the events, as given by Blackwater guards, and has stirred controversy in Iraq and Washington and prompted an inquiry into the role of Blackwater and other private security firms in Iraq.
Democrats Choice: Corporate or Kucinich Center?
Kucinich's healthcare bill has 84 co-sponsors in the House, and his concerns about the biases in Clinton-era trade policies are, as even many Republicans admit, now typical of a large number of voters. If voters and candidates are "triangulating" in quest of a middle position, it is not the middle of the electorate that they are seeking. The goal of most Democratic candidates seems to be to keep some symbolic touch with the activist base of the party while retaining the good graces of both major media and wealthy contributors. The established media have decided that anything other than a long withdrawal from Iraq, to be followed by maintenance of support bases, is "irresponsible." (This in spite of the fact that a majority of the citizens in this nation that we wish to democratize want us out and smaller majorities even support the use of violence to remove the U.S.
Rojas's Rcrd Lbl: Free Song Downloads and Hold the Ad Clutter
In a FAQ on the site, Rojas and company ask people who syndicate tracks to outside blogs to take the whole widget rather than just host MP3s themselves. "We support the site and pay our artists through advertising and sponsorships, and the only way we can do that is if people visit the site or embed our widgets," the FAQ pleads. Rcrd Lbl isn't the first company to offer music promotion and downloads in a blog format; nor is it the first to offer ad-supported song downloads. Free download service SpiralFrog launched two months ago with a small handful of major labels agreeing to let it represent their catalogs. The company has been heavily criticized however for the Digital Rights Management (DRM) restrictions it places on downloaded tracks, as well as for its incompatibility with Apple's ubiquitous iPod.
From the Editor :
I am sad to say goodbye to Shaun Pollock, I feel this retirement was a little too soon as his bowling is far more impressive than Andre Nel and obviously his batting is in another league to Nella as well. At least he retires with a healthy average in both the bowling and batting departments. Funny that a team like Australia have not produced a "Pollock" for many years. On the subject of MOTM, I feel Dale Steyn deserved it. To get 6 wickets on that flat Durban wicket was a World class performance and to give it to Ashwell Prince was an injustice to the hard work put in even by Graeme Smith with his hundred. I fear this was another political choice to boost the image of QUOTA players. Oh well as long as the guys who are picked on colour keep on scoring 100's Im ok with them in the team. I just dont understand what more Prince did in that Durban test to deserve the award? .
