Credit Establish History Bad Credit History Credit Card

Nice income but not much credit history

Dear Liz: My husband and I decided to start using a second airline frequent-flier program and applied for its credit card. I was turned down on the grounds of "few revolving accounts opened long enough to establish credit history" and "not enough accounts opened long enough to establish a credit history." My husband then applied for the same card, with the same response.

We have an annual income above $170,000, we own a $750,000 home outright and have investments of $1.5 million. We have no debts and we've had the one credit card we use (a MasterCard) for 15 years. We always pay the bill in full every month, and we have never been anywhere near the $25,000 credit limit. Our FICO scores are about 750.

Internet China Bans American Movie Sales; MPAA’s Glickman Responds

China is blocking the import of American films, said MPAA CEO and Chairman Dan Glickman in an official statement released last week.

"Although we have not received official confirmation of such a ban from the Chinese Government or China Film, the indicators are strong that our information is correct," read the statement. "If such action has been taken … it would represent an enormous step backwards in terms of China's efforts to develop a strong … and legitimate film exhibition and distribution market."

In a move that some suspect is retaliation for a recent U.S.-filed WTO complaint over China's alarmingly high piracy rate, the Chinese government appears to have stopped granting import requests to American filmmakers -- of which it normally allows for about 20 movies per year.

Contractor loses La. scholarship account data dating back to 1998

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A Boston-based contractor hired to store and safeguard state scholarship and college savings account data lost most of those records _ including bank account numbers and student and parent Social Security numbers _ during a move, officials say.

"We certainly don't want to create any panic. But people should be aware and take the necessary steps," said Melanie Amrhein, executive director of the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance. "This is backup data off of a mainframe that contains sensitive personal information."

Special equipment and software and "sophisticated computer skills" would be needed to get the compressed records from the TOPS scholarship program, START Saving Program, and Free Application for Federal Student Aid, according to a notice posted on the Internet.

Mike Henry says ...Big plans ahead for Vernamfield

Now with Vernanfield being larger than Manhattan in New York and the main airstrip there being extremely long and capable of being lengthened even further, this offers us the possibility of feasibly developing the kind of overall facility to accommodate pretty much any size and type of aircraft in the world, not only for cargo or travel purposes, but for servicing, which we could develop as a critical regional service industry.

The servicing of airplanes involves not only engine and other mechanical operations, but many other facets like upholstering and other aspects of craftsmanship, for which Jamaicans are noted internationally. So while we have been talking about all of this over the years, Europe has been busy delivering on these promises at pretty high costs. It's now time for us to get in on the action and that's another big focal point of the development plans.
