| Contractor loses La. scholarship account data dating back to 1998
BATON ROUGE, La. -- A Boston-based contractor hired to store and safeguard state scholarship and college savings account data lost most of those records _ including bank account numbers and student and parent Social Security numbers _ during a move, officials say. "We certainly don't want to create any panic. But people should be aware and take the necessary steps," said Melanie Amrhein, executive director of the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance. "This is backup data off of a mainframe that contains sensitive personal information." Special equipment and software and "sophisticated computer skills" would be needed to get the compressed records from the TOPS scholarship program, START Saving Program, and Free Application for Federal Student Aid, according to a notice posted on the Internet.
Anna Schwartz blames Fed for sub-prime crisis
She still works every day at the National Bureau of Economic Research in New York, where she has toiled since 1941. Her fame comes from a joint opus with Nobel laureate Milton Friedman: A Monetary History of the United States. It revolutionised thinking on the causes of the Great Depression when published in 1965. The book blamed the Fed for causing the slump. The bank failed to use its full bag of tricks to stop the implosion of the money stock, and turned a bust into calamity by raising rates. "The book was a bombshell," says British monetarist Tim Congdon. "Until then almost everybody thought the free-market system itself had failed in the 1930s. What Friedman-Schwartz say was that incompetent government bureaucrats at the Fed had caused the Depression." .
A History of The Virginia Gazette
He set up his press and began to publish the acts of the recently adjourned Assembly. He also printed several other papers about which nothing is known. Nuthead was called before the governor and the council, where he was ordered to stop the presses "until the signification of his Majesties pleasure shall be known therein." Within months that "pleasure" was known when a royal order was issued that "no person be permitted to use any press for printing upon any occasion whatsoever." With that definitive ruling, Nuthead packed up and returned to his native Maryland. Printing was nonexistent in the colony for nearly 50 years thereafter. Government policy eventually eased and a more tolerant attitude prevailed. In 1730 William Parks moved from Annapolis to Virginias new capital, Williamsburg, to open a branch office.
Meat-Axe Justice
So many black males are going to prison now that it is a black rite of passage; their forced surrender to reality of justice in America. In nine states, up to 40% of black males are not permitted to vote because their citizenship has been taken away. Of course, now there are over a million black males in prison, but is anyone troubled by this? Not really, and besides, the good people of Tehachapi are begging bread from a flush-with-money prison system to build their hospital. Doesn't this strike anyone as even a tiny bit odd? Since many claim scripture for guidance, don't you think there is some counsel therein for conscientious citizens? What about a cruel David and the little ewe lamb? Do we have the wit to discern and repent when timely truths visit? David did, to his credit.
McCain and Romney spar over Michigan economy
I think that the outcomes will be Hilary vs MCcain for the presidency of 2008. The people will decide who best fits the robes for the position. They will determine who is going to take home the prize. Mrs. Clinton definetly is more modern than any of the other candidates, but Mr. McCain recieves support from many young people. This year, I know that many young people will vote because they are tired of a stagnat gov't who does nothing for them. I would like to see more change this year in the senate. I hope that the person who takes the presidency will appeal to a younger generation by including us in the decision he/she may make. .
BHP's Kloppers certain bid will be hailed
Rather than Caesar's inhumanity, the inspiration for BHP's acquisition team is no doubt Caesar's strategic genius, and his ability to move quickly and do the unexpected. And certainly Kloppers' $150 billion move on Rio only a few weeks after becoming CEO was certainly unexpected. The problem is that while Rio boss Tom Albanese has put on his best armour, setting out an aggressive standalone growth plan and cost savings, unlike Vercingetorix he has no intention of giving up his sword. Far from surrendering, he is inspiring the troops. And he is certainly the man for the job. Like Kloppers, Albanese has been in charge only a short time at Rio and is using that newness to ditch Rio's traditional conservatism on its prospects. Instead, he is being more aggressive in outlining the company's growth plans and shareholders are clearly impressed.
Clinton powers to New Hampshire comeback over Obama; McCain triumphs ...
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton powered to victory in New Hampshire's Democratic primary Tuesday night in a startling upset, defeating Sen. Barack Obama and resurrecting her bid for the White House. Sen. John McCain defeated his Republican rivals to move back into contention for the GOP nomination. "I felt like we all spoke from our hearts and I am so gratified that you responded,'' Clinton said in victory remarks before cheering supporters. "Now together, let's give America the kind of comeback that New Hampshire has just given me.'' Her victory, after Obama won last week's Iowa caucuses, raised the possibility of a prolonged battle for the party nomination between the most viable black candidate in history and the former first lady, seeking to become the first woman to occupy the Oval Office.
HPV Vaccine Hoax Exposed: FDA Documents Reveal HPV "Not Associated ...
A NewsTarget investigation has revealed that the FDA knew as early as 2003 that Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) was not linked to cervical cancer. Despite this knowledge, the FDA, along with key pharmaceutical companies, has continued to push for the use of HPV vaccinations as a defense against cervical cancer, even when its own research showed no link exists. Today, NewsTarget publishes, "The Great HPV Vaccine Hoax Exposed," a special report that cites from numerous FDA documents and clinical studies to show that HPV vaccines are not only ineffective, they may actually be dangerous! As revealed in the special report, the Gardasil vaccine has been linked to a 44.6% increase in precancerous lesions in some women, raising serious doubts over the sensibility of mandatory vaccination policies.
